AI guidelines for candidates

At Advocate Health, we believe technology should strengthen human connection, not replace it. Our hiring process is designed to help us understand who you are and how you can contribute to our mission of helping people live well.  We recognize that some candidates for employment with Advocate Health may use AI during the application process and expect that they will do so responsibly.  When Advocate Health uses AI during the hiring process, we are committed to doing so responsibly in ways that reflect our values, promote fairness, and build trust.

AI can be a useful tool during your job search. We support its responsible use when it helps you prepare, learn, and communicate more effectively. While AI can be a helpful tool, we want to get to know the real you. Your skills, ideas, experiences, and potential are what matters most. Therefore, we expect your application materials, assessments, and interview responses to accurately reflect your own qualifications, experiences, work, and abilities.

Misrepresenting your skills, qualifications, experience, or identity, whether through AI, another person, or any other means, may result in disqualifying you from consideration for employment with Advocate Health or may result in withdrawal of an offer of employment or termination of employment if the misrepresentation is identified after we have extended an offer or employment.

You may use AI to:

  • Improve the grammar, formatting, or organization of your resume or cover letter.
  • Learn about Advocate Health, our mission, and our career opportunities.
  • Practice for interviews.
  • Research industry topics and role related skills.
  • Prepare questions for recruiters, hiring managers, and interviewers.

You may not use AI to:

  • Generate or provide answers during an interview unless specifically permitted.
  • Misrepresent your skills, experience, qualifications or identity (including by using another person or system to respond on your behalf during an interview or altering audio or video during an interview).
  • Complete assessments that are intended to evaluate your own abilities unless AI use has been approved.
  • Create false credentials, certifications, work history, or achievements.
  • Record or transcribe interviews without advance notice to the interviewer and explicit consent of the interviewer.

Note: Above activities are also unacceptable if performed without using AI.

Advocate Health uses AI-enabled tools to help evaluate job-related qualifications and characteristics in connection with recruiting. These tools are designed to support, rather than replace, human decision-making; trained personnel make final decisions with meaningful human review and oversight.  Advocate Health does not use AI-enabled tools to discriminate based on any protected characteristic or proxy or for engaging in any protected activity under applicable law.

We may use AI to:

  • Support recruiters in identifying candidates whose skills, experiences, and potential align with the needs of the role and team.
  • Help us connect with a broad range of qualified candidates more quickly and effectively.
  • Advance our commitment to fair and equitable hiring by helping ensure candidates are assessed consistently based on their qualifications, skills, and experiences.
  • With candidate consent, transcribe interview conversations so interviewers can focus more on the conversation and less on taking notes.
  • Support interviewers’ preparation for interviews by developing role relevant questions based on the skills and experiences needed for success.
  • Provide opportunities for candidates applying to high volume roles to share their qualifications and experiences through voice-based interviews, giving more people the opportunity to be considered.

Human judgment remains at the center of every hiring decision.
